Kubuntu, solved.
Okay, after many wasted hours, I’ve solved all my problems.** I found this article, which outlines the problems that were caused by the installer. Basically it couldn’t find the internet with the server down. So then it commented out everything from sources.list, which wouldn’t let me run updates.
The solution to this was to download and install kubuntu with the alternate text based installer. Install was pretty much just the exact same thing.
** I have still yet to enable dual displays however, everytime I screw up now I don’t have to reinstall. Yes yes, I know you should have known this earlier, whatever, now I do. The following command will solve the hang at the progress bar.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -high xserver-xorg
So now I guess I’ll still fiddle around with the dual displaying, hopefully I’ll get it and then post up a how to.

Just wondering, have you ever done any work with Osx86? I’ve been wondering, it seems like a perfect way to put mac on pc to me… http://www.osx86project.org/
I don’t know whether to switch or not.

I’ve been thinking about it. My only hang up about doing it though is, I don’t want my primary machine going down if Apple issues an update, then I’m stuck with a brick basically.
